Christmas Celebration

Christmas

Christmas is the jolly time of the year celebrated to remember the birth of Jesus Christ. It is observed on 25th December all across the world and holds a religious significance. Popular customs for Christmas celebrations in India and across the globe include attending Church, decorating houses, setting up Christmas trees, getting together with friends and family, exchanging gifts, and waiting for Santa Claus of course. People start preparations well in advance by decorating their house with lights and Christmas symbols like bells, wreaths, stars, candy canes, and candles. It is believed that 2020 years ago, in a small town of Bethlehem, in Judea, lived a girl named Mary. Mary was engaged to a young man named Joesph. One day, an angel Gabriel appeared to her and gave her the news that soon she’s going to give birth to a baby boy. Mary was not married and hence she was afraid, yet, she accepted God’s will and trusted the decision of God. The angel Gabriel then appeared to Joseph and told her the same thing what he had told Mary, and said,” Don’t be afraid to accept Mary as your wife as she is going to give birth to Heaven’s child.” Then Gabriel told him that he should name the child Immanuel, which means ‘God iswith Us’. Christmas signifies eternal hope, good cheer, prosperity and a lot of blessings. Jesus was born to die for sinners, thus Christmas signifies the good news for the entire human race. In the month of December, the first Sunday is considered as the first advent Sunday. From the very starting of the month, the members of congregation, youth, and elders come together to clean and decorate the church and keep the church ready for Christmas celebration. The youth council of the church organizes carol singing, where the young and elders go to the different houses of the city and sing the carols and say a word of prayer. On 24th December, Christmas eve is celebrated with many cultural and social programs in church such as the Christmas tree. In this program, one of the youth members dresses up as ‘Santa’ and come to the front of the church to give the gifts and chocolates to the children. Also, on 24th December, the people worship the God with the lights in their hands which symbolizes that the darkness has been taken away and we have a new blessed hope in the Son of God. On Christmas day, the people around the globe visit the churches for it is believed that true Christmas spirit spreads good cheer, love and blessings. Different churches have different pattern of the services. In our church we sing Christmas carols, a few selected people read selected bible verses, which signifies Christmas. In some churches they have feast of the Lord. The priest of the church gives the sermon on Christmas and prays for the entire congregation and the entire world. After the service people go out of the church and greet each other with Christmas spirit. As Christmas is one of the most important and one of the most fascinating festivals in the world, it’s a blessing to have the Christmas spirit in our school. Here at G.K. Gurukul our teachers and students welcome Christmas with great enthusiasm and cheer. Teachers decorate their respected classrooms and the entire school with great passion. Grabbing something quick and easy on the go while yourun out the door? Sounds familiar? Rising later doesn’t give you the much-needed time to break the fast from the night before and prepare a sustainable breakfast that will set you up for the day. How to inculcate early to bed and early to rise habit in Children/child Turn off TV an hour before bedtime and create a sleep-inducing environment Several studies have indicated that watching TV or being exposed to screen light can disrupt the levels of melatonin in our body. Melatonin is an important sleep-wake hormone. When melatonin levels are at their highest, most people are sleepy and ready for bed. Watching TV reduces its production and thus, interferes with the sleep cycle. So, it is advisable to break the child’s habit of watching TV just before bedtime. Instead, reading/hearing stories creates a sleep-inducing environment. Set a sleep and wake up time It is advisable to have a kid’s bedtime and wake-up routine. Ensure that kids complete all their activities by the planned time and retire to bed punctually. To ensure compliance, kids may be granted freedom to extend this time during weekends. Make breakfast interesting One can add a bait to the kid’s routine by promising them their favorite but healthy breakfast. Promise them that they will get an interesting breakfast if they wake up on time. Experiment with food and try giving them food which is as healthy as possible. This will not only make them sleep on time but will also make them wake up timely as well. Chalk a routine: Get hold of a pen and paper and work out a pattern for the kids to follow during the day. Include what time they will get up, eat, sleep etc. Follow some bedtime rituals with the kid like changing into night dress, brushi/ng teeth, reading story book, saying prayer immediately before going to bed. Help the child relax: Make the surroundings quiet and comfortable before putting the kid to bed, like make sure there is no noise and light entering the bedroom. The temperature of the room should be comfortable for them to sleep, not too cold or hot. If the kid likes, one can give him/her a warm water bath which will help them to sleep Conclusion: Getting up early has many benefits for both one’s body and mind. The hardest part is convincing oneself to do it, and then getting into a routine of getting up early every morning. If we start implementing these tips we will soon see that it gets easier and eventually we will find that our body starts to get used to it, and we end up waking even before our alarm goes off.
